Breich - 24th June 2007

First Engineering with the support of McCulloch Rail carried out the first 8/200 CAT 11 renewal in Scotland.

The 8/200 process, a Network Rail initiative towards the '7 day railway' is to carry out an entire renewal of 200 metres within a total time of 8 hours and hand back the track at 50 mph.

This required in-depth planning and organisation, along with the close co-ordination of the key activities such as, supply of Freight, haulage and materials, the removal and placing of ballast, sleepers and rail to allow sufficient time for welding, testing and reconnection of S & T.

This work was carried out with the help of suppliers and subcontractors.
This initiative pushes boundaries towards the 'world class railway' vision of Network Rail.

McCulloch Rail also supported First Engineering in the 'bottom up CAT 11 relays' at Saltcoats and Breich, where 732 and 998 yards were relayed in 29 hours. This represented a 40% and 95% increase in the normal output from traditional renewal methods and a reduction in cost of approx 20%
