William and Daniel McCulloch, or Billy and Danny as they prefer to be known as, are twin brothers that have lived in the Ballantrae area for almost all of their lives.
They formed W & D McCulloch Rail Division in 1992, after winning a contract from First Engineering to remove the scrap rail from the Rail Infrastructure.
Whilst removing the scrap rail the brothers saw a niche for a machine that would greatly enhance the amount of rail that could be moved in one shift, and so the Trac Rail Transposer was born.
Since designing and building the Trac Rail Transposer W & D McCulloch Rail Division has gone from strength to strength, and has changed it's name to McCulloch Rail. 


 The company now carries out four main activities on the Railway Infrastructure:
  • Transposing of rails, switches, crossings and sleepers
  • UK's number one rail installer, specializing in single line installing, Bullhead, Flat Bottom and CWR.
  • Burning and recovery of scrap rails, switches, crossing and all related material
  • Removal of scrap rail, concrete or wooden sleepers 

McCulloch Rail is a family run business employing around 25 people. Billy and Danny own and manage the company ensuring that the day to day business runs smoothly and efficiently, whilst keeping the company up to date with new technology, working practices and procedures.

McCulloch Rail own a fleet of road/rail vehicles, Trac Rail Transposers that were all manufactured on their premises in Ballantrae, Scotland, and equipment that is all tested and approved to work on the Railway Infrastructure. These Include:

  • Unimogs
  • EGO Trolleys & Trailers
  • Philmor Rail trolleys
  • Skid Steers
